I must apologise for the long abstainment from blogging... I think ever since I got hooked onto Facebook, playing with quizzes and online games, I never found the extra time to blog about my daily activities and other interesting events happening to or around me!! :) *now i'm starting 2 feel guilty lolx* Anyways, I told myself lately that I want to be like SP in a way .. To complete a book reading every few months.. If i'm not wrong, SP had disciplined himself to complete at least 2bks a month or was it 1bk every two months? Haha i've forgotten.. But, I simply told myself to start reading secular books and other inspirational books that non-Christian authors write. As such, I found myself spending about 40 mins at Borders abt 2 months ago, browsing through their latest bookseller items. I always felt that big bookstores or libraries such as Borders only attracted ppl who had nothing else to do in their lives lolx! Nerds, geeks galore... You might find the occasional pretty bookworm or good-looking dude all beefed up strutting their stuff along the aisles .. But to my surprise, there were all sorts of people at Borders!! lolx.. How times have changed man!! I think it must be the economy crisis that makes ppl wanna grab a book and spend 3-5hrs just reading and enjoying the free air-con that taxpayers are helping to cover the bills! Anyways, wanted to do a quick sharing of this book I came across which I bought just after reading the brief summary at the back of the book. It's titled "LIFE AT WORK - The Joy of Discovering What You Were Born to Do". It was written by Thomas Moore, who lived as a catholic monk for 12yrs, later became a psychotherapist, has a degree in theology, musicology and religion and now lectures extensively throughout the world!!! :) :) What an amazing resume i tell you... The book begins w a chapter about Alchemy. People who study science wld know what is Alchemy. It's a form of chemistry and speculative philosophy practiced in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and concerned principally with discovering methods for transmuting baser metals into gold and with finding a universal solvent and an elixir of life. The author wanted to introduce that the process of Alchemy is present in our everyday lives... We are the alchemists who are concerned on how our lives are being orientated.. Many would spend time constantly being frustrated because they want to get the final product of the process ---> ACHIEVEMENTS <--- People all over the world, from all walks of life and religion all go through this process. This is what I strongly believe. Even as a Christian who believes that God has a plan to prosper us and not to harm us... I believe that God puts us through the process of alchemy to refine us, to 'burn us', to test us... And it's only through constant boiling at certain temperatures and testings, can we then see the fruits of our 'suffering and refining'... I am just a little more than halfway through this book and boy, I can't wait to get to the end of the book! I am encouraged to know that wherever I am, whatever job I am doing now, it's slowly refining me to a better job elsewhere... It might or might not be something that I'm good at or like, but I just have to go through it and perhaps in time to come, I might know what is in store for me in future! :) :) P.S if any of you want to read this bk when i'm done, feel free to msn / sms me haha... It's FOC!!! =) =) |
